A little while ago we wrote an article which mentioned a few of the top social media statistics from the Ashes test series. In the end, there were approximately 1.6 million uses of the #Ashes hashtag during the series, in addition to roughly 3 million tweets relating to the Ashes in total.
England and Australia drew the final test at the Oval, in what turned out to be quite controversial circumstances. With only four overs left and England having five wickets remaining with a target of just 21, play was stopped due to poor light. England still won the series 3-0 though, and we loved the reactions of the players online afterwards. It shows once again how insightful this kind of media can be for fans a followers of the game. It’s incredible to think that Twitter was only three years old the last time England hosted the historic series.
