To celebrate the 150th anniversary of BASF - the world’s largest chemical producer - delegates and guests were invited to an extraordinary event at the historical Aintree Racecourse, famous for annually hosting the Grand National steeplechase since 1839.
The purpose of the event was to congratulate all of the members of the ‘BASF family’ on reaching such a significant milestone as well as making history together! There were a range of activities occurring throughout the venue at Aintree’s internationally renowned Equestrian Centre, including special domes for key-note speakers; an area displaying an insightful look into the history of BASF; and EventBeat’s unique iPad polling station, to name but a few. Alongside the BASF themed exercises there were other activities that were more relevant to the setting, such as life-sized board games; a virtual horse racing game; an authentic carousel; and eateries including a novel fish & chips stall!

A special microsite was designed and created, which directed users to a custom-made Smart Poll, to allow the guests to answer questions relating to the event. The answers were then collated and presented in a Screen Cast on the large LED screen inside the Equestrian Centre, as well as the numerous side screens. The delegate answers gained maximum exposure due to the different screen locations dotted around the venue. A specific polling station was built, housing six iPads, as well as offering guests the opportunity to scan a QR code or follow the bit.ly lead on their own internet devices, (smart phones or tablets) allowing them to use the Smart Poll at their own convenience. After the event all of the data and answers can now be exported and used for future reference as a means of direct feedback from guests. The Smart Polls are a brilliant way of gaining personal insight at events for this customer insight!
Up on the main stage throughout the day the quiz was attracting members of the audience, as teams battled it out to become the ultimate quiz champion! Facing off in pre-arranged fixtures, each team had to progress through a 1v1 round before a member of their team had to step into the money grabber machine. Collecting as many gold tickets as possible, the two winners were pitted up against each other in a thrilling finale that saw emotion, drama and a worthy team of champions - including a dancing masterclass from one animated member (rightly praised by the host - himself sporting a striking jacket!).
The event was a great success and everyone surely felt like winners - here's to another 150 years!
