MCFC Cityzen Weekender

Beyond90 specialise in creating engaging experiences for live sport fans. They approached us with the exciting prospect of helping to launch the new manager, new badge and the new strip of Manchester City Football Club at a weekend long event held at the City football grounds.

MCFC’s dream was to connect fans to the club giving them behind the scenes insights, exclusive interviews with City legends and interactive games to test their football skills against players. They also wanted to connect fans around the globe with those in attendance through digital media.

The objective was to unleash a spectacle to the footballing world and position Manchester City Football Club as a force looking to compete on the world stage; not only competitively but also commercially!

Enter EventBeat! We set up social media feeds at various points throughout the event and created a hashtag which allowed people both at Etihad and around the globe to join in with the festivities and show Pep a great Mancunian welcome.

Due to so much buzz on social media, it was essential that all content was moderated and then filtered, to ensure the content displayed was always specific to the zone and audience it was relevant to. These 3 zones were the CFA talks, Blue Moon Tavern & the main stage.

Unveiling Pep was the main attraction of the event. EventBeat was used to power a Q&A with him on stage, with comments from Facebook and Twitter live on screen from the fans of Manchester City around the world. The event was a huge success, seeing over 10,000 people join City in their launch over the two days.

EventBeat's task was to facilitate live audience Q&A's at 3 stages across the event, giving lucky fans the chance to ask questions to the new manager Pep and lots of MCFC ledgends. Social media was visible on all event screens throughout the event inbetween planned content.

Social media is perfect for events of this nature; and is often seen as the perfect 'go-to content' for any gaps in the busy main screen content schedule. There must be 100% content live all the time at a large scale event. By having multiple social feeds to switch to throughout the event, it means you always have something interesting and engaging to switch to if you have a spare 10 minutes inbetween sets.

EventBeat worked alongside Sledge, Wigwam & Beyond90 to deliver the event.
